POC

POC – a Pakistani Origin Card is an identity card just like NICOP, however it is issued to individual who are not eligible for ordinary Pakistani identity card or NICOP. Applicants with non-Pakistani parents are eligible for Pakistani Origin card. Likewise NICOP, POC is also issued by NADRA (National Database and Registration Authority).

Difference between POC and NICOP

NICOP is issued to those that are of Pakistani origin, i.e. their parents are Pakistani and has a Pak Nadra ID card/NICOP – also they have not cancelled their Pakistani nationality (in order to claim a foreign nationality who does not have dual nationality agreement with Pakistani e.g. spain).

POC is issued to two different types of applicants:

  1. Foreign nationals that have cancelled their Pakistani nationality because their new citizenship does not allow dual citizenship with Pakistan.
  2. Foreign nationals that are spouse to a Pakistani national.

Benefits for Pakistani Origin Card

The applicants entitled to apply for POC benefits from retaining almost the same rights as NICOP. Ex-Pakistani nationals holding POC gets to enjoy their affiliation with their home land despite having claimed another citizenship (which does not allow dual nationality with Pakistan e.g. Spain). POC allows the card holder to travel to Pakistan without any restrictions – they can enter and leave as and when desired – they do not have to get visa for Pakistan.

Whilst in Pakistan, they do not have a time limit for days they can spend in Pakistan. The applicants are able to stay there for an indefinite period of time. They are also not required to report to police station or any other relevant office to continue their stay in Pakistan.

Likewise NICOP card, POC holders can also buy/sell property in Pakistan, get rented accommodation, open bank accounts, get employment and can do many other things like Pakistani citizens. The only drawback is POC is usually issued for only 5 years (instead of 10 years such as NICOP), it also more expensive to get than a Pakistani NICOP card.
